Masterson’s Tavern , nestled in the bustling area of Moonee Ponds , promotes itself as a chic “hipster” locale , but my unfortunate encounter at this establishment resulted in an experience I’d rather forget . While the bar may seem appealing from the exterior , what I encountered behind its walls was appalling and beyond comprehension .
The State of the Venue : Grimy and Neglected Beyond Belief
From the moment I stepped inside , it was apparent that sanitation was not a priority at this bar . The floorboards were filthy, and a overpowering stench of decaying beverages and dirty bathrooms polluted the entire venue . With a smell of a mixture of ammonia , putrefaction and sour vomit . The bar area , which should be the main attraction of any pub, was piled high with used mugs and debris that looked like it had accumulated over weeks. The lavatory was in even a truly awful state— clogged , with a snapped lever and tiles smeared in what I can only assume was human excrement .

Many customers have reported seeing bugs darting across the counter and proof of vermin in the bar and house area . For a business that serves website drinks , these issues are completely unacceptable and raise serious concerns about the integrity of the food and drinks .

As I asked around, I was stunned to find reports against him involving misconduct , with multiple women citing incidents of sending unsolicited explicit content . Described as overly aggressive and boundary-crossing , Cornwell’s misconduct has created an unwelcoming setting for women who frequent Masterson’s. His presence at the bar often seemed closer to that of a predatory presence than a friendly owner .
